April 26th @6:30pm
Organization: Grey Box Collective
Grey Box Collective invites you to celebrate ten years of bold, boundary-pushing art at A Decade in the Grey, an unforgettable evening featuring a documentary film premiere, an encore live performance, and the release of their fourth coloring book.
Doors open at 6:30pm, with the night kicking off at 7:00pm with an encore performance of Finger Painting [for grown-ups]. Originally written by Molly W. Schenck in 2009 and restaged in 2014, that production inspired the formation of Grey Box Collective. This most recent iteration of the show blends childlike wonder with adult jadedness, landing somewhere between cynical and whimsical. Expect dark humor, unexpected moments, audience interaction, and a joyfully chaotic performance. This performances features creatives from the 2014 production alongside longtime GBC collaborators.
Following intermission, the evening continues with the world premiere of A Decade in the Grey, a documentary chronicling ten years of Grey Box Collective’s multidisciplinary artistry. Through archival footage, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and interviews with GBC creatives, the film traces the company’s evolution from its roots in Arizona’s arts scene to its growth as a grassroots organization committed to wellness, inclusivity, and innovation. A Decade in the Grey is an inspiring testament to the power of creating difficult art during difficult times.
The night wraps up with a Q&A with performers, filmmakers, and creatives, giving audiences a chance to go deeper into the creative process and the themes of the evening.
Tickets are available on a sliding scale ($20–$60), with reduced rates for students, educators, and working artists. Limited on-stage seating is available for the live performance (must be purchased by April 24th). The new coloring book (inspired by Finger Painting [for grown-ups] and filled with prompts designed to spark joy and play) can be added on with any ticket purchase by April 3rd. Additional, coloring books may be purchased at the event.
Show content is intended for audiences 18 and up and includes strong language and candid discussions of mental health and systemic harm.
