Somatic Improvisation
Date: October 26, 2025 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Location: Phoenix Center For The Arts
Available Slots: 18/20
Description: Somatic Improvisation is an open format dance class that centers the soma (i.e. the living body). Somatic inquiry - finding awareness of self through investigating your body and movement - is the guiding light for these classes.
This movement practice is facilitated by Molly W. Schenck, a Registered Somatic Movement Educator/Therapist and former dance professor. Her dynamic teaching style meets people where they are at and welcomes participants of all abilities, skills, and knowledge. She artfully blends her knowledge of human movement, dance, yoga and somatic practices into a beautifully balanced class.
Each class will start with a verbal check-in that will help Molly guide the movement offered to the class. Then Molly will guide participants through movement exploration and mini-phrases to offer support based on comments made during check-in. These movement explorations and mini-phrases are informed by Molly’s studies with Dr. Martha Eddy and rooted in Dr. Eddy’s methods titled BodyMind Dancing™ and Dynamic Embodiment®. Each class concludes with stretching and a verbal check-out to wrap-up the somatic exploration.
Materials: No materials required
Prerequisite: No Experience Required
Duration: 1.5 hours
