Phoenix Center for the Arts is excited to invite our community to the RACE 101 workshop by Calvin Terrell of Social Centric Institute. Presented as a FREE 3-day online workshop, each day is 1-hour long, presented on three consecutive Saturdays – July 10, 17, and 24. Participants may choose from a morning or evening workshop series.
This class is to equip newcomers to racial work who want to effectively engage their children/partner(s)/spouse/parents/guardians/ family/friends/coworkers in healing conversations about race. The key learnings for this course are:
Understanding what race is and how it impacts perceptions of all identities and circumstances
How to talk with children and someone of any age who is indifferent or oblivious to race
What racial healing work looks like intra-racially
What racial healing work looks like interracially
Choose from the two sessions:
Morning – 9 to 10 a.m., July 10, 17, & 24
Evening – 4 to 5 p.m., July 10, 17, & 24
The Center understands that we have a responsibility to the community we love and know, to not only provide high quality arts education, but also high quality social justice education and community conversation. For this reason, we are offering this workshop free of charge. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend, an RSVP is all that is required.
If you feel these kinds of programs are important to our community, we encourage you to MAKE A DONATION TO SUPPORT THE FUNDING OF THESE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES, which will allow us the opportunity to grow our new Arts for a Change department.
