Third Friday Reception
May 19, 2017
6:00 to 9:00pm
The exhibit by the Five15 Arts collective in May at the Phoenix Center for the Arts features the work of the newest members: Katy O’Connor, Daniel Friedman and Turner G. Davis. The title of the show is Underground.
Katy O’Connor will be showing new paintings of bananas, people, birds. These works continue her exploration into recording and capturing seemingly ordinary moments through observation.
Daniel Friedman will be showing paintings from his Refugee Pixel series, which is based on the idea that all the pixels cropped from digital photos are actual physical objects. The paintings are the result of imagining the kinds of images the pixels might have come from to determine what the colors the pixels will be in the acrylic on panel paintings.
Turner G. Davis will be exhibiting works on paper mounted on wood and 3 dimensional works that continue his exploration of the dissonance between the external and internal. These new pieces are formally experimental, but part of the ongoing “Anatomies” series, that acknowledges the burden/pleasure of the body while revealing the hidden accumulated “stories” buried within.
