Performance in the Borderlands is excited to present “The Goat or Who is Sylvia” as our next Banned Play!
Date: January 28th
Location: Phoenix Center For The Arts
Time: 7:00pm
“The Goat or Who is Sylvia” may at first read as a play about bestiality, however the author Edward Albee uses the goat as a metaphor in this absurdist play for an ostensibly liberal society. The play circles around the stereotypical middle-class white American family who seem to have everything together until it is revealed that the husband and father, Martin, has fallen in love with a goat. The family crumbles and the audience is left to question their own stances on issues of the taboo. This play is particularly relevant in Arizona today, as it was the source behind a major controversy when it was read aloud in a local valley high school.
We are excited that this Banned Play will take place at Phoenix Center for the Arts in the black box theatre (right down Roosevelt from the Hostel). This way we can be sure that everyone will be warm during the brisk January air.
