
Michael Blackert is the Outreach Lead for Canvas of Courage, where he connects veterans and
their families to support, resources, and opportunities for healing through community and
creative expression. With a career dedicated to service and advocacy, Michael applies a people-centered approach to outreach and veteran support.
After 10 years of honorable service in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant, including three
deployments, Michael medically retired and continued serving others in new capacities. His
experience in field artillery, infantry, and recruiting provided him with strong leadership skills
and a deep understanding of the challenges veterans face during and after service.
Michael’s experience includes veteran counseling, benefits guidance, and public service. He
holds a Master of Leadership and has served as a Veterans Counselor at Grand Canyon
University, supporting veterans with education planning, career transitions, and resource
navigation. As a Retirement Specialist at the Social Security Administration, he helps individuals understand benefits and complex systems. His prior role at USAA enhanced his expertise in claims, benefits, and service-focused support.
At Canvas of Courage, Michael’s outreach is built on trust, clear communication, and a genuine commitment to supporting others. He leverages his experience and expertise to strengthen community connections and ensure veterans feel supported and informed.
Michael is married to Allison and is a proud father to his son, Ryder, and daughter, Remi. His
dedication to service and community shapes both his leadership and family life
