The Phoenix Center for the Arts has a long-standing ceramics program producing some very talented artists over the years. Don Ridley directs the Ceramics Department and in 2016 he created the Ceramics Co-op at the Phoenix Center for the Arts. The principal behind the Ceramics Co-op is that a core group of instructors or serious artists contribute to the overall quality of the program by assisting Don with the activities of running the studio. These include mixing glazes, bisque firing student work, firing glaze kilns, and sharing knowledge and inspiration with the students. The Co-Op members have space in which to work, are responsible for bisque and glaze firing their own work, and generally have the freedom to explore and experiment beyond the regular curriculum in the ceramics program.
