Volunteer at the Center

Phoenix Center for the Arts volunteers are creative, diverse, and vibrant individuals who help with everything from staffing the front desk to hanging paintings in galleries, and helping at special events. Volunteering for the Center is a great way to meet people, develop skills, build your resume, and have a positive impact on the community.

Volunteers at the Center also receive class discounts of up to 100% based on the number of hours volunteered. Volunteers may redeem up to three classes each calendar year.

Volunteer Benefits

In addition to meeting new people and connecting with the arts community, volunteers can use their hours to redeem discounts on art classes:

  • 10 hours = 25% off a studio class
  • 20 hours = 50% off a studio class
  • 40 hours = one FREE studio class

Volunteers applications for youth under age 18 must be signed by a parent or guardian. Please email volunteer(at)phoenixcenterforthearts for a pdf application. All volunteers under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult when volunteering.

Volunteers over age 18, who will be working with children, must submit either a current Fingerprint Clearance card or a physical copy of their fingerprints.

Community Events Volunteer

Position Summary:

Community Event Volunteers provide assistance with a variety of events and programs at Phoenix Center for the Arts and its facilities. Community events with opportunities to assist with include Open Houses, Gallery Openings, Infuse Open Mic, Art Mobile programs, and special event tabling. Community Event Volunteers assist event coordinators with a variety of tasks related to set-up, production, execution, and tear-down of events. Volunteer duties, dates and hours vary by event.

Event Dates & Times:
Opportunities vary throughout the year, ranging from monthly to quarterly time commitments, with shifts ranging from 2 to 4 hours. Current event shifts available:

  • Infuse Open Mic – Every 2nd Sunday of the month from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Gallery Opening Receptions – Every First Friday of the month from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

INFUSE OPEN MIC DUTIES

  • Greeters/Ushers – Help attendees find their way, answer questions, collect emails from attendees, pick up trash before and after event
  • Stagehands – Set up & take down of stage equipment
  • Artist Sign-up – Collect names and information of artists who wish to perform that evening, and help set the line-up, set-up and take-down event signage before and after event

GALLERY OPENING RECEPTION DUTIES

  • Sales Assistant – Process art sales during the evening
  • Greeters – Welcome attendees, direct them to the gallery from the parking lot, answer questions about the Center
  • Assist Gallery Curator with any set up or break down for reception

Minimum Qualifications Vary by Event:

  • Be on time for scheduled shift
  • Must be at least 18 years old or have signed permission from legal guardian
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds as needed
  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
  • Available for minimum two hour shift
  • Friendly and easy going personality, likes to talk with people and provide help

Front Desk Volunteer
Phoenix Center for the Arts and Thunderbird Arts Center are looking to recruit weekly front desk volunteers to assist with answering calls, registering students for classes, and greeting patrons. These are ongoing weekly volunteer positions.

Volunteer shifts available at Phoenix Center for the Arts in Downtown Phoenix:

  • Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Thursdays, 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Fridays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m.

Volunteer shifts available at Thunderbird Arts Center in North Phoenix:

  • Tuesdays, 1 to 5 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m.
  • Wednesdays, 1 to 5 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m.
  • Thursdays, 1 to 5 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m.
  • Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m.

Qualifications: Likes talking with people, must be at least 18 years old, comfortable answering phones, and must pass background check.
