Phoenix Center for the Arts is proud to present Pitfalls & Obstacles, an exhibition by artist Greg Manley and curated byRashaad Thomas, with a Third Friday Reception, January 18, 2019, in the Larry Wilson Gallery. The reception takes place from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and is free to the public. The Larry Wilson Gallery is located within the Performing Arts Building at Phoenix Center for the Arts, 1202 N Third Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
ARTIST BIO
Gregory Albert Abasi Jahi Manley was born and raised in Brooklyn New York. He attended High School of Art & Design in New York and graduated in 1988. Due to life and other circumstances, Greg’s art education was put on hold. He relocated to Arizona in 2003 with his wife and children. In 2013, he attended Phoenix College to continue his education in Fine Arts. Graduated in 2017 as an Eric Fischl Scholar Alumnus, earning an associate in Fine Art under the influence of mentor and Professor Jay Hardin. He is currently transferring to Arizona State University to continue his education in Fine Art. Gregory has been shown in the Eric Fischl Gallery, Phoenix Art Museum and the West Valley Art Museum as well as, commissioned by private collectors located in Scottsdale and Laveen, AZ. Gregory currently resides in El Mirage, AZ.
ARTIST STATEMENT
G.A.A.J. Manley Art displays a brand of multimedia. The bodies of work are in wet, dry medium and sculpted imagery. G.A.A.J. Manley Art reflects on life experiences, world issues and thought-provoking themes. G.A.A.J. Manley Art does this by creating figurative images then, abstracting them. By doing so is to show the emotions, power and diversity in life.
